Keepin’ The Lights On……Fire
Someone call “911”; Kameron Marlowe has come in hot with his sophomore record earlier this month. “Keepin’ The Lights On”.... a 16 song project that takes you on a journey of the last 2 years of the North Carolina native’s life. Marlowe who is well respected and thought to be one of the best voices country music has to offer today (my opinion and most definitely others), packs a punch from start to finish with track 1 being a electric guitar heavy banger written by none other than Wyatt McCubbin, John Pierce and Micah Wilshire. Kameron has always dialed in on limitless vocals while making sure the story is the main focus of every song.
From the jump, it is easy to tell that each song has a purpose, a position, and a deep meaning. This record isn’t meant to just be for the casual “summer fan”. It is meant for the people that want to feel something through the song. This record is for the ones that have gone through all of life’s ups and downs.
After the 2022 “We Were Cowboys” record, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this album. There were high hopes for this new project, considering how well done the last one was. Am I crazy enough to say that this one exceeds expectations and blew the 2022 project out of the water? Maybe I am. Maybe it takes a little bit of life experience, music experience, and time, but I will tell you this, there is no denying that this is absolutely what the fans of country music need. Marlowe’s sound and this new album are the perfect blend of songs that you will jam to. It will make you feel something - all in its 57 minute length.
For me, my big 3 have to be “One That I Don’t Call”, “Quit You” and “Smaller”. I believe that those 3 songs could make anyone a fan of this guy. True and honest songwriting, which could absolutely change someone's life upon listening.
With songs like “Never Really Know”, which touches on loving on the people you love the most, and making sure you check in on them and “Will It Be There In The Morning” to songs like “Nothin’ Slowin’ Us Down”, there is something on this record for everyone. Kameron Marlowe has been able to go from the young guy with a voice stronger than the sun, to a seasoned artist who values the artistry and storytelling that is the driving force of country music. If this record is anything, it is a storybook that will take you on a ride through any part of life that you may be experiencing right now. It is songs like these that will stand the test of time.
